Mr Avison

Year 3/4 Rooks class teacher.

When did you start working at Roseberry?
I started work as a supply teacher in the Autumn term of 2022 but I started officially in January 2023.

What is your role in school?
I teach in Year 3 & 4.

Why did you become a teacher?
I changed career to become a teacher after home-schooling my son during the Covid-19 pandemic. I loved planning activities and lessons for him and found it so rewarding helping him to learn and grown. From then, I knew it was what I wanted to do.

What is your favourite subject and why?
When I was in school my favourite subjects were music and performing arts. I studied music at university and love how it combines different skills: creativity, technique and FUN! My favourite subject to teach is maths. I really enjoy helping children understand new maths concepts and apply them to their work.

Do you have a favourite book?
I have so many! I love crime novels. Lee Child and Jack Higgins are probably my favourite authors. My favourite books to read with my son are the Wigglesbottom Primary books, There’s a Yeti in the Playground and at Christmas we enjoyed reading The Christmas Pig.

What is your favourite food?
I love Mexican food – it’s my favourite food to cook.

What is your favourite sport?
Football – I support Newcastle United. I also love American football and follow the Seattle Seahawks.

Do you have any hobbies?
I love music and enjoy playing guitar in my spare time. I also enjoy cubing (yes that’s a thing!). I like to solve Rubik’s cubes and different sized puzzles.

What do you like about working at Roseberry?
This school has a special place in my heart. It was the first school I taught in as a trainee teacher and I always wanted to work here. The staff are so friendly and supportive and the children have made me feel so welcome. It feels like a big, happy family.
